Technician on the field. He is a natural leader. Mike can get bigger as well and add to that already 6’8 frame, One of the best Offensive Tackles in this Draft, He is Solid at both Run and Pass protection.
He may be too tall to play anything other than on the outside at Tackle. Should get a little bigger/ stronger as he has been susceptible to power. Really bad tape against Georgia Bulldogs.
How He Fits
Is Brian Bulaga going to be trusted to stay healthy? Can the Packers really afford to take an Offensive Lineman in the 1st round with so many glaring needs on Defense? If the Packers think “No we don’t trust Bulaga to be or stay healthy”, and “yes we value the Tackle Position and it doesn’t matter what round it is.” I think McGlinchey is the pick at 14 if he’s available. He will be a day one starter assuming Bulaga can’t go or has a set back in training camp. Bulaga may even get cut for all we know. His Cap Hit is rather High, but itt would be over 3 Million in Dead Cap money. Which makes me think he stays but is a cap causality next off-season, were its only about 1.6 Million in dead Money but a savings of over 6 Million, according to www.overthecap.com. With Rodgers Extension Coming rather soon The Packers may need to invest in more youth on the Line. We are already paying top 10 money for the left tackle and center. Make sense to invest in youth.
Mcglinchey would give the Packers one of the best Offensive Tackle groups in the League. He could fill in at Left Tackle or Right Tackle. And also ensure the Packers don’t have to carry a ludicrous 10 Offensive Lineman on the roster like last year. 8 seems to be the magic number there, and with more talent up front you don’t have to carry so many tryout types. We need to get this fixed now. The 2 spots should go to the Defense or another TE spot.
