The offseason is a great time to do things you normally don’t get to do during the season. This, for me, includes breaking down some old all-22 footage.
I came on to write for PTTF in July of 2017, breaking down game footage from that season on. However, there are so many great games that have taken place before I was writing here that I wish I could have broke down for all our faithful readers.
This offseason I thought I would do just that, and what better time to do it, especially with the lack of football. It’s always great to go back and revisit some of our favorite games and seasons. This week, it will be the 2014 matchup between the Packers and the Jets.
2014 is one of my favorite seasons to break down tape from. The offense was so multiple and the defense was trying to find their groove with personnel switch-ups and different looks up front.
On Sunday afternoon, I figured I would head over to Twitter and share some of these all-22 clips with our readers and break down this game amidst the monotony of the offseason.
For those of you who might have missed it, here is a full recap. Enjoy and make sure to follow along as I’ll be posting clips throughout the offseason.
It’d be easy to overlook but watch how important it is for the edge player to get hands on the TE to slow up his release. Throws off timing completely for the offense. pic.twitter.com/WSMs8ZcLqL

Rodgers and Nelson had incredible timing with each other. This simple slant/flat variation is beautiful. #Packers pic.twitter.com/rrdJv4RCNx

Gotta hand it to the Jets..gutsy call to go with the zero blitz on 3rd and long. pic.twitter.com/yPauDDrMcJ

The sign of a great special teams player is being able to make plays in space. Great job here by HaHa. Swift release, buzzes the feet and makes the play. #Packers pic.twitter.com/gI8xOb9ujY

One thing I love about Tramon is he isn’t afraid to get in the mix against the run. Great redirection and downhill attack as he holds the edge against the stretch play. pic.twitter.com/I2Es6yV6VX

The achilles heel of the Dom Capers defense has always been the option. Never found a way to slow it down. pic.twitter.com/ZFaUSgXGUe

Technique job by Guion playing the cut block here and making the play. Two hand punch on the guard, drive the blocker down, stay square and work down the LOS. #Packers pic.twitter.com/PiBW8U062B

Good grief..I miss having Jordy in Green Bay. These kind of plays were routine for him. #Packers pic.twitter.com/HrtpSNz4c2

Heck of a job by Tramon breaking on this ball. He’s still one of the quickest readers on this defense in the pass game. #Packers pic.twitter.com/0MkgmYwFi5

I love this call by the Jets. Empty set, third down and go with the trap play. Everything has to be quick-hitting and rely and timing. pic.twitter.com/fgaJDFc2fc

Great job here by the end in this Okie front. Lines up in a 4i technique, gets hands on the offensive tackle and controls him from the snap. The running back has nowhere to go and the defense rallies. This is how you get it done in this front. #Packers pic.twitter.com/Acqz8AJ9qx

This one’s for you @greenbay486 ..Mike Daniels was a hoss during his time in Green Bay, especially from the 3 tech. Footwork, hands, hips all work in unison as he gets the TFL on this play. 💪💪 pic.twitter.com/MJxnp4E9MX

The back-shoulder throw to Jordy was always a thing of beauty. Jordy’s able to drive the corner and create separation and is right in synch with Rodgers throw. Clinic stuff. #Packers pic.twitter.com/5xJNddz1SB

The Packers went on to win this game after a sloppy start, finishing in a 31-24 win. It was the start of a string of wins for the team in the season. Each week of the 2014 campaign was fun to watch, and the team really started to look like a Super Bowl contender. Sadly, the results didn’t pan out as such.
If there’s ever a film study you would like to see featured this offseason, feel free to let me know. We here at PTTF are all about giving Packer fans the content they want and deserve.
