Strengths

John Kimball Scott is a master of many types of Punts.  He has the big leg to reverse field if a drive fails to get going.  He also has the touch to pin the ball inside the 10 yard line.  But where he has perfected his craft in the last year or so is his hang time.  He can hold for kicks and has a strong enough leg for kick offs as well.

Weaknesses

There is not much to not like about JK Scott.  But while in the pros he may need to speed up the “operation time” with his punts.  He has excellent flexibility and doesn’t have to jump to hit the ball with all of his power.  Its possible the style of his approach makes it seem a little slower.   But with even this slight knock on him he only had 2 blocked punts in his career, albeit one was in the 2016 Championship game.

How He Fits

Day one starter for the Packers, who could use a big leg again.  The starting punter, Justin Vogel, for the Packers last year has already asked for his release and might stick on with the Browns who signed him off waivers shortly after. Vogel didn’t have the strongest leg either and obviously felt he couldn’t compete with the level of talent JK has.

Its been said that his Kickoff Touch-back percentage was a little below average, but i believe with the athleticism the coverage teams for Alabama had he was instructed to intentionally shorten the kick and put a higher arc on them, forcing a return to maybe the 10-15 yard line.   Its a momentum builder and the Packers did this often with Mason Crosby.

I would love the Packers to utilize his ability to pin his opponent inside the 5 yard line, using back spin or coffin corner kicks.  With the improved coverage teams the Packers have had over the years and all the Athleticism they drafted which just makes them that much better.  I can see the Packers getting there Special Teams Ranking to improve drastically, maybe even top 10 in the first year with JK at the helm of Punter and Kickoff Specialist.

Player Comparison

I have read Dustin Colquitt, according to Bleacher report.  Colquit was a 3rd round pick in 2005, and has a career long of 83 yard Punt.  He’s also in the Top 4 in All time kicks inside the 20 yard line.  I will take it!!
