Fant has Great size and speed similar to former Packers tight end Jared Cook. He’s a good blocker and can block when called on. His athleticism and 33 1/2 inch arms along with 9 3\4 inch hands make him a good target up the seam and great catch radius. He is willing to block and puts in effort to win. He is very strong after the catch, carrying a defender 30 yards after contact. Fant is a match up nightmare as he can run past safeties, cornerbacks and linebackers.
Fant has some drop issues due to lack of focus. He isn’t the most technically sound Tight End but this issue can be coachable. He can get stronger but a year in the NFL can help that. He split time with two stars with George Kittle (now with the San Francisco 49ers) and fellow first round prospect, TJ Hockenson.
How He Fits
Fant would be the TE1 for the Packers in 2020 and allows them to move Fant on the line or in the slot. His effort blocking helps him with his fit in Green Bay. His issues are mostly coaching. He can be a 3 down tight end and a nightmare in the Red Zone. He is the second best Tight End in this draft and if the Packers miss out on Hockenson, Fant is a fine consolation.
