Thomas Is athletic and can be a guy that can attack the seam and be successful at it. He has enormous hands, measuring at 11 1/2 inches, and long arms at 34 1/8 inches. He has great size at 6’3″ and 259 pounds and can run by and through defenders with that size and is a very good in-line blocker and will fight for extra yards. He played basketball and ran track in high school, highlighting his overall athleticism.
His blocking is a bit raw but can only improve and get the right coaching. Thomas has to use his speed to his advantage rather than run people over. Needs to improve his route-running.
How He Fits
Ian Thomas is a bit of a project but is one of the most talented tight ends in this class. His size and speed can make him a solid replacement for Jimmy Graham as a seam attacking tight end. he can play all 3 downs as a blocker and can be a very good pro in the right system. His touchdown against Rutgers shows his speed and hands as a seam-buster.
