The heralded matchup between the best quarterback to ever live facing off against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. Sunday will be a reunion of the old NFC Central rivalry back when geographical location wasn’t relevant for divisions. Green Bay is coming off the early Week 5 bye and as a result returns two of their rested stars in Davante Adams and Kenny Clark.
Tampa Bay is coming off a disappointing loss to the Chicago Bears. Their loss came via the highly criticized error of Tom Brady forgetting how many downs he had left. Father Time comes for all the greats and a normally methodical genius faltered with the world tuned into the electricity of Thursday Night Football. The Buccaneers are also eager to get back a premium wide receiver in Chris Godwin to pair with the monster that is Mike Evans.
Tampa’s strength isn’t just their off-season additions but their intimidating defense led by their middle linebacker Devin White. The heart of their defensive line was Vita Vea and he will miss the rest of the season after he broke his leg last week. An aggressive defense focused on high pressure has a top 10 defense against QBs, RBs and WRs whole ranking middle of the pack against TEs. Would be a real shame if the Packers offense was focused on their diamond in the rough tight end, Bobby Touchdowns.
Aaron Rodgers/Davante Adams
Coming off a bye Aaron Rodgers is laser focused and gets his favorite weapon back in the fold. Expect him to look to Adams often like Nick Foles and Allen Robinson we’re able to do last week, en route to 10 catches for 90 yards. Aaron’s playing red hot and Green Bay is going to rely on him to carry the offense with a stout Tampa run defense.
Rodgers: 265 yards and 3 TDs
Adams: 8 catches for 115 yards and 1 TD
Clearly a new favorite target for Rodgers and the most awesome tight end in the league. He’s receiving praise from all pro George Kittle about his work ethic. With a name like Bobby Touchdowns you’d expect him to keep feasting this week after his 3 TD performance. Guessing he gets at least 1 this week.
Prediction: Question mark
Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams have both showed versatility in the running game and the passing offense. Unfortunately for them they run into a Tampa defense that has been dominate.
Rushing yards allowed so far by game
Week 1 vs NO
Latvias Murray – 48 yards
Alvin Kamara – 16 yards
Week 2 vs Carolina
Christian McCaffrey – 59 yards
Week 3 vs Denver
Melvin Gordon – 26 yards
Week 4 vs LA Chargers
Justin Herbert -14 yards
Austin Ekeler – 12 yards
Week 5 vs Chicago
David Montgomery – 29 yards
Big yikes for rushing opportunity granted the loss of Vita Vea unclogs a big hole in the center. Green Bay’s stellar running game will be put to the test. The RBs will have to find value in the air otherwise which may happen more often in the jet motion role as Tyler Ervin is missing this week. Aaron Jones is a premier talent in this league and will find a way to produce just not betting on it being on the ground.
Think Green Bay has their key talent rested and returning which gives them the advantage. If Green Bay avoids any turnovers for the 5th straight game they will be positioned to stay undefeated.
