If you’re anything like me, you’re sick to death of seeing the NFL’s best players being injured and ruled out for the rest of this gosh-forsaken heck-hole of a season. (Simpsons quote: Check)
There’s been talk all on Twitter about putting the players on Injured Reserve together on a team capable of competing for a Super Bowl. So I’m here to add fuel to that fire. I’ve put together a complete 53-man roster of the best the 2017 IR list has to offer. Let’s start with the offense.
Aaron Rodgers throwing the ball to Odell Beckham Jr, Julian Edelman, and Greg Olsen would be ridiculous. And there’s no way you could stop a running attack with Johnson and Cook running behind that line. And, in case you missed it, there’s a roster spot for John Kuuuuuuuuuuhn. There’s some shuffling on the line, so not everyone is playing their preferred position, but it should be good enough given the weapons surrounding them.
The defense might be a little shaky, but there is a crazy amount of pass rush ability. That should make up for the lack of top notch cornerbacks. Imagine Watt, Avril, Mercilus, and Hali rushing at the same time. Hard to imagine an opposing quarterback walking away from that alive. Eric Berry and Malik Hooker provide an elite safety pairing to lead that secondary.
Special teams might be a bit shaky as well with Jake Schum at punter, but having Janikowski as your kicker will ease your mind. And, I’ll be honest, I just chose a random long snapper. I’m sure Aaron Brewer would do fine. Darren Sproles and Danny Woodhead would likely handle punt and kick return duties. They may not break a lot of big returns, but they would do the trick.
So what do you think? Would this 53 man roster win Super Bowl LII?
